The Pop Grekul award began in 1983. For those who did not know Pop Grekul, he was an older parishioner who worked tirelessly for St. Rita Booster Club and their sports programs, always putting the kids first. Pop exemplified what sportsmanship, hard work and dedication to sports, school and life was about, always insisting on respect to his coaches and peers, and dedication to sports and school. This award was put into place for the student athlete that best represented Pop’s thoughts, beliefs and actions.
